American tenor Arthur Shen incorporates an intelligent sense of style with a fresh
and invigorating approach to the standard repertoire, demonstrating impeccable intonation,
sensitive phrasing, and a vibrant, colorful upper register - all hallmarks of great
artistry. His clear, clean, and energetic portrayals infuse everything he sings
with vitality and spontaneity.
Of his recent appearance as Rodolfo in LA BOHÈME with National Lyric Opera, John
Zeugner of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette writes:
"...a tenor named Arthur Shen, who sang the writer Rodolfo with scary purity, power
and conviction...And, as Shen demonstrated in the stunning aria and duet that ends
Act I, he's a tenor with ample power...with the suggestion that, even in full flight,
he’s holding something back. There may even be more lung power in the tank. That
display was so mesmerizing that most of the audience sat sated through the scheduled
intermission. After Shen's amazing soufflé, any other refreshment seemed silly and
unworthy."
