American tenor Arthur Shen incorporates an intelligent sense of style with a fresh
and invigorating approach to the standard repertoire, demonstrating impeccable intonation,
sensitive phrasing, and a vibrant, colorful upper register - all hallmarks of great
artistry. His clear, clean, and energetic portrayals infuse everything he sings
with vitality and spontaneity.
Arthur Shen was raised in Indianapolis, IN and Walnut Creek, CA. He attended the
University of California at Berkeley and the Mannes College of Music. Mr. Shen is
currently the principal tenor for Italian and Spinto roles for the
Staatstheater Braunschweig. Arthur Shen resides in Braunschweig, Germany.
He has studied with notable operatic artists such as Olivia Stapp and Mignon Dunn.

Arthur Shen recently jumped into a production of La Bohème
for Theater Bielefeld. He also opened the season for Staatstheater Braunschweig
as Des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut. Additionally, he sings in the revival
of last season's successful La Bohème with Liana Aleksanyan as Mimi. Later this
season, Arthur will sing the Officer in Hindemith's Cardillac and Gabriel Adorno
in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra (with Liana Aleksanyan as Amelia).

Staatstheater Braunschweig has announced its season repetoire for
2009. Arthur is scheduled to sing Des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, Rodolfo
in Puccini's La Boheme, Offizier in Hindemith's Cardillac and Gabriel Adorno in
Verdi's Simon Boccanegra.
